Adicora Rocks The Runway for the 1st Time at Metropolitan Fashion Week

This blog may be a little late……but we couldn’t miss the opportunity to do a write-up on one of the hottest fashion events of 2012!
On March 31st, Adicora made a huge splash at the 1st Annual Metropolitan Fashion Week and 5th Annual Forbidden Show at the Museum of Flight. Swimwear and lingerie designers showcased their new collection at the 5th Annual Forbidden Show. The man behind the event was Eduardo Khawam. He is not only the producer and director of the Forbidden Fashion Show and Metropolitan Fashion week, but is also a huge contributor in the charity world. Eduardo's fundraising activities have raised over 15 million dollars for a range of charitable organizations across the United States.

This year’s runway show was inspired by the glitz and glamour of the 1950’s. The theme spread from guests’ attire, venue , to even a live band playing classic songs of Frank Sinatra. Adicora swimwear was able to bring their own unique twist on glamour with their new Tropicana 2012/2013 collection. Adicora swimwear was exclusively showcased for the 1st time on the final night of the Metropolitan Fashion Week and critics responded with excitement. For those who had the opportunity to see the new collection, they saw bold colors, unique cuts, retro tropical prints and exotic skins all inspired by Hawaii. The new collection not only features Adicora’s 1st ever one-piece swimsuit, but it also incorporates the summer’s hottest trend of fringe , Hawaiian Retro prints and snake skin!

Metropolitan fashion week was a very successful show and we can’t wait to be part of MFW 2013! Special thanks to thinkThin Products, Verizon wireless, Lexus of Bellevue, Gene Juarez Salons and Spas, Hotel Max, Google Places ,Brand Bundee, LAB5 Fitness, KING5, 425 Magazine, Seattle, Pirq and Turk Photos.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Behind The Scenes: The Adicora Swimwear Tropicana Campaign Shoot.

Our designer Niveen Heaton, got her inspiration from the beautiful tropical beaches and wild life of Hawaii. You will notice in every style that there are vibrant colors, retro Hawaiian prints and exotic snakeskin prints. It only made sense that we took the new “Tropicana collection “ to the beaches of Sunny Southern California! The weather could have not been more perfect on the day of the shoot. It was unbelievably gorgeous and thankfully the sun was shining nice and bright. We were in for a long day of shooting, but our spirits were high and we were so excited to get it going. The concept of the shoot started off flirty and playful, but as the sun started to set they became sultry and sexy.

Overall it was an amazing experience, to be on set and see Niveen’s vision come to life. The sand, waves of the water and rock formations were the perfect accents and compliments to the Tropicana collection. Kyle said it perfectly, “The colors, light, ambiance, energy, and people really made this day special.” I know all of us had an unforgettable time working, bonding and playing under the sun!

We had a very successful shoot! Thanks to Cintli jewelry designer, Beto Yarce for his participation and providing accessories to complete each and every look. Eduardo Khawam (Director and Producer of Metropolitan Fashion Week). Our gorgeous model Patience Silva, Faith Bartruff who worked her magic with hair and makeup. Fabulous Lacy Ditto who assisted our photographer, and the one and only Kyle Goldie, Fashion Photographer. Without their passion, talent, and dedication, the campaign shoot would have not been possible.

The Tropicana collection is truly unique and beautiful. We’re positive you’ll find a style you love! Our Collection will be available at www.adicoraswimwear.com

A special thanks to Lacy Ditto for providing the following "Behind the Scenes" pictures below!

Inside the 2011-2012 Adicora Photoshoot!

This year’s collection was inspired by the beauty of nature itself: exotic flowers, leopard print, and galaxy themed details. We had the privilege to work again with Kyle Goldie to shoot our 2011 – 2012 swimwear collection. Adicora’s designer Niveen Heaton envisioned this year’s campaign to be shot indoors with a modern backdrop created by gigantic origami flowers, handmade by Origami Artist Rebecca Ashburn. Each of the dozens of lilies, roses and lotus flowers were folded individually and delicately by hand. After hours and hours of folding, Rebecca hand delivered the beautiful flowers herself, and created another dozen small roses for the head pieces used in the 4th Annual Forbidden Fashion Show.

“I spent over 100 hours creating all of the origami for Adicora. In preliminary discussions with designer Niveen Heaton, we wanted a bold and distinctive look with a summery theme. We decided on origami butterflies, a big origami sun, and origami flowers…I am so happy to have worked with Adicora.” - Rebecca Ashburn.

After the flowers were brought to the studio and built into the backdrop, it was Kyle’s turn to do his magic. He used his expertise to make sure each shot came out with clean, modern and without harsh shadows. This technique is what made our models stand out with their bright suits and contrast with the white back drop.

We asked Kyle how he thought the shoot went: “It was a really fun shoot. We had some really fun models and the origami inspiration idea, which was done by Niveen Heaton, was phenomenal. I was kind of skeptical at the start because I have never worked with origami while I’m trying to light the fashion on the model. But it gave a great 3 dimensional look to the campaign. So I was very pleased with the shots.”

Hair and Makeup Artist Jenny Bowker truly went above and beyond on the set. She was on set during every shot, making sure not a single hair was misplaced! She made sexy beach curls on one of our models Natalie, and a sleek and sexy pony tail on Gabriela to show off the backs of the suits, which later matched the hair of the Forbidden Fashion Show. Jenny applied this season’s hot look, bold bright eyeliner, using hues like electric blue and hot pink paired with light pink lip gloss. It was a perfect daring look to combine with this year’s Adicora collection!

Jenny shared her advice to get this great look:
“For the Adicora shoot I wanted Natalie to look bronzed and beachy, but still sophisticated and edgy- just like the brand! Get the look by setting hair in hot rollers, while they cool apply a tinted moisturizer, cream bronzer onto forehead, nose, cheeks and chin (blend onto the neck!) dampen an eyeliner brush and dip into a bright melon or coral eyeshadow and apply in a thick retro line across top lashes. Layer on black mascara, peachy blush on the apples of the cheeks and a sheer nude or peach gloss.”

Thank you all, we couldn’t have done it without all the hard work of everyone involved in this photo shoot, and would especially like to thank Kyle Goldie, Rebecca Ashburn and Jenny Bowker for their unfailing dedication on and off the set. Check out all the designs of this collection now at www.adicoraswimwear.com . We have many different styles and colors to choose from. We’re confident you will have a one-of-a-kind look at the beach this summer.

Adicora behind the scenes at the Forbidden Fashion Show!!!

Adicora Swimwear is so proud of how this year’s 4th Annual Forbidden Fashion show turned out! Now that the show is over and the lights are out, it’s time for our fans to know all the secrets behind the scenes…

Producer, director and host Eduardo Khawam used his magic to put on a stunning James Bond-themed show. Held at the spectacular Seattle Art Museum downtown, art of Cai Guo-Qiang’s ‘car-art’ exhibit helped to give the show a sexy ambiance combined with elegance and extravagance.
The jewelry pieces used to accessorize each and every collection were designed by none other than Cintli designer Beto Yarce. These incredible pieces definitely complimented each line. Origami artist Rebecca Ashburn helped our line stand out with her unique, handmade origami rose headpieces. The look really set our collection apart and matched our 2011-2012 collection photo shoot. Back stage, stylists from Gene Juarez and Leonardo Coronado worked hard to give the models the perfect elegant and mysterious look.

The models all smiles backstage

We’d like to give a very special thanks to our official Social Media guru Chris Christopher. He did an excellent job, and went above and beyond in helping the designers and the backstage team to get everything ready for the show. And of course, the show couldn’t have happened without the help backstage of Luis Sanchez and Lina Zeineddine, who kept everyone organized and on-schedule. The beautiful models did a fantastic job, strutting their stuff and running back and forth from the runway to change from lingerie to bikinis in mere minutes-all while wearing stilettos! These girls were amazing!

One little secret we’re dying to let you in on: backstage with us was the crew of Cliqvue TV, filming behind-the-scenes footage for the upcoming show The Industry. Adicora and designer Niveen Heaton will be the star of the show’s first episode! Stay tuned for more details on this in the coming weeks! To find out more about Cliqvue, visit: http://www.facebook.com/cliqvue

But the most exciting part of the show was Adicora designer Niveen Heaton unveiling our 2011-2012 collection.

Behind the lens with fashion photographer Kyle Goldie

By Rachael Yahne

This spring, Adicora swimwear will again be partnering with photographer Kyle Goldie to create a captivating shoot for our 2011 swimwear collection. Kyle, who is no stranger to professional photography after more than three years in the business, also lent his one-of-a-kind perspective in our 2010 collection shoot, and with stunning results.
After graduating in 2007 with a business degree and subsequently working in advertising, Kyle quickly became burnt out on corporate management and turned to his true passion, photography, for a living.

Thankfully for us, he’s been shooting ever since. Starting first with odd jobs at weddings, products, and landscapes, or “anything I could get my hands on” as he describes it, his work quickly brought him to his true niche in shooting fashion.
“Shooting fashion was natural for me because of the lifestyle, and the clientele it brought out, and their personality and characteristics...Fashion photography brought me to galas, and fashion shows, and I got to know designers who had similar personalities as me- more confident, outgoing… with the same outlook on how to go about creating art…we meshed well.”

It’s this meshing that led him, and Adicora designer Niveen Heaton, to conceive last year’s Resort Collection photos. Kyle’s work embodies the underlying statement of fashion photography today: innovative, enthralling, and edgy. As a photographer, his luminous character and unique perspective show through his work; he’s not afraid to take his shots dead-on, capturing his own peculiar brand of juxtaposition between time, place, and element. Or, what he calls creating a ‘balance’ between the model’s reality, his own ability, and the client’s objectives. Kyle has branded himself by capitalizing on the inspirational background of his home (Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, and other Northwest hotspots) and contrasting it with high fashion (such as our luxury bikini line, among others). It’s this bold move that has enabled him to import his own imaginative style into every frame.
During last year’s shoot for Adicora, Kyle fused bold colors and streamline poses to showcase our 2010 line. We loved the way he made the colors and styles of the line POP-And we can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with this year. Check out this photo's from last year's shoot:

In our interview before his upcoming shoot for the Adicora 2011 line, we sat down with Kyle to ask him five questions:

We loved the look of last year’s shoot! Tell us how that shoot went:
“The shoot went great. We had a few speed bumps because of weather, and time of the shoot. We shot in late April, and it was actually rainy and dark outside that day. Typical Seattle weather. We ended up shooting at a botanical garden. And actually the garden allowed me to play with the colors-greens, pinks, and really play with location.”

As a photographer, what are your biggest influences?“I’m influenced by previous advertisements in past decades. Before a shoot I research on the internet, or [for sports shoots] I go watch games and get inspired at events.

[Photographer] Chase Jarvis inspired to keep my chin up, to keep going, because he was successful, so I thought ‘I could do the same’. What he’s doing kept him going.”

What do you envision for this year’s shoot?
“This year will be all in studio. I want to go more editorial, and bridge gap between editorial and commercial styles, like fake sunlight and hard shadows. I want to make it more sexy, edgy. Like something out of LA, Miami, South Africa.”

Showcasing swimwear is obviously different than showing other types of clothing. What makes it more fun, or challenging?
“Swimwear is fun for me because brings me out into the environment – the beach. It lets me play with environment and the model, textures of the garment and match it with environment.
And regardless of having hot bikini model to work with, they are more beach go-er types.”

What contributions would you like to make to the world of fashion photography in your career?“I always told myself I don’t want to be good, I don’t want to be great – I want to be amongst the best. Right now I tell himself I am amongst the best; I just have to prove it.”

Lately Kyle’s work has had him showcasing athletes and sportswear, a field he feels extremely comfortable in. He also says he is developing a lifestyle portfolio, and continuing to work in landscape and cityscape photography, and plans to showcase work in an exhibition this year. Here are some photos of his latest work:

Interview with a Beauty and Fashion Expert

This week we interviewed hair, makeup, and wardrobe stylist extraordinaire Rosaline Hampton. She worked with us last year on our 2010 Collection photo shoot, and did an amazing job! Here is a photo of her work with us:

And here is some of Rosaline's most current work:

What was your experience like working with Adicora?
It was very exciting to be working with someone that was launching their first collection! Overall, the whole experience I had was very positive and fun.

I’ve heard you have a new business opening, a salon. Tell me a bit about your new endeavor?
We’re opening a salon in downtown Bellevue. This has been a dream of mine my whole life, and I’ve been working on a business plan the last few years. What makes this salon unique is that it has hair, make up, and wardrobe. I’m going to have two other stylists working with me: Dani, a local who has been working in the industry for twelve years, and my cousin coming up here after working in L.A. My goal for the salon is to have it be luxurious and pampering, while also being still very inspiring to clients. When they come in, I want the customers to feel excited and looking forward to fashion. The theme is going to have a glam rock look.

Did you always know that you wanted to work in makeup, hair and styling? If not, what were your other passions growing up?
Yes, this actually has been something I’ve always been in to. I started really getting interested in hair when I was five, and a little later, very interested in make up as well. I had my own clientele in high school and then went straight from there to cosmetology school. After that, I had a two year apprenticeship.
I really enjoy doing all aspects of this, including projects outside of the salon at photo shoots, TV sets, etc.

How did you get to the success you have today?
The thing I would attribute most to my success is my two year apprenticeship with Justin Monroe. He passed down to me the skills that he had learned over time. Since my schooling, I’ve also made it a priority to still train once a season.
I’m also hugely inspired by traveling the world and seeing fashion in other cultures and how it influences us.

What celebrity are you dying to get your hands on and do their makeup, hair, or wardrobe?
My lifetime goal has been to work with Angelina Jolie. She’s very mysterious, and there is so much to who she is as a person. I would love to be able to talk to her and get to know her while working with her.

Who are your inspirations in the makeup, hair, or fashion industry?
I’m really inspired by the work of Alexander McQueen. I really like the bold movement in his clothes, and the color choices. His clothes are almost like a painting.
MTV is also one of the top places I get inspired. I often do my cardio in the morning to the music videos. I love how out of the box things are in the videos, and how they use fashion to express the music.

What are some of your favorite upcoming looks for Spring 2011?

I really love how it’s become big to mix beiges, nudes, and grays. Last year those tones were all popular separately, but this year they’re mixed to create a really soft, warm, color palette that I love. I’ve already been shopping for blush and champagne colors this year. Another thing I’m having a lot of fun with is feather extensions for hair. I’m excited to bring them in to the salon. In make up, my favorite thing right now is really bright pops of lip color. I’ve been doing those a lot in photo shoots lately, using bright colors like orange and purple.
